Coimbra is een Portugese stad, hoofdplaats van het district Coimbra, gelegen in het gewest Centro en het subgewest Baixo Mondego (Beneden-Mondego), met een bevolking van rond 138.096 inwoners. Coimbra ligt ruim 200 km ten noorden van Lissabon en 100 km zuidelijk van Porto, aan de rivier de Mondego. Coimbra was in 2003 Culturele Hoofdstad van Europa. Na Lissabon en Porto is het de belangrijkste stad van heel Portugal (samen met Braga).
Coimbra is a city and municipality in Portugal. It served as the country's capital during the First Dynasty (12th Century) and remains home to t he University of Coimbra, the oldest academic institution in the Portuguese-speaking world and one of the oldest in Europe.
